Bequest program

Epilogue Circle

The Epilogue Circle exists to ensure that Australia's biggest celebration of writing and ideas, which you love, is one of continued artistic leadership and excellence in the future.

Leaving a gift to Sydney Writers’ Festival enables us to continue to celebrate the world’s most important and exciting writers and thinkers, in a program that encourages broad, diverse, rousing conversations, the discovery of new writers and a lifelong love of reading.

The Sydney Writers’ Festival is a not-for-profit organisation and an income tax-exempt charity. Less than 30% of Sydney Writers’ Festival funding comes from the government and box office covers around 40% of the cost of putting on the Festival. The other 30% needs to come from individuals and corporations who believe in the vision of the Sydney Writers’ Festival.

Bequests are extremely valued by Sydney Writers’ Festival because they enable the Festival to plan for the future, maintain the quality of our programming and continue to develop and evolve our education programs.
Every gift in every will, however large or small, makes a real difference to the Sydney Writers’ Festival. It costs nothing to be a member of the Epilogue Circle but it makes a big difference. If the time is ever right for you to have a confidential conversation with Sydney Writers’ Festival about a gift in this way, please contact our Head of Development Lauren Dixon (contact details at the bottom of the page).

Epilogue Circle Membership

The Epilogue Circle is a group of individuals who have made, or have indicated that they will make, a bequest to the Sydney Writers’ Festival.

If you have been inspired and enchanted by the Sydney Writers’ Festival in the past, we hope that you will remember our future and consider becoming an Epilogue Circle member. Your gift will enable us to ensure that future generations will benefit from your generosity and that the Festival that you know, and love will continue to flourish for many years to come.

Members of the Epilogue Circle are acknowledged on the Sydney Writers’ Festival website, Festival Program and appropriate printed materials.

Sydney Writers’ Festival invites all members of the public to consider making a planned gift in their will.

If you do wish to consider us in your will, there are a number of ways you can express your intentions. You may specify:

  • a specific gift that could be a fixed sum of money or a specific item
  • a percentage of your estate
  • the remainder of your estate (residuary gift).

We especially encourage donors to make their gift to Sydney Writers’ Festival on an unrestricted basis, rather than specifying a particular purpose or activity. Such unrestricted gifts mean your generosity will support Sydney Writers’ Festival’s greatest needs as they change over time. We ask that donors consider our suggested wording below:

“I bequeath, free from all duties or taxes, [the whole/a percentage/something specific/residue] of my estate to The Sydney Writers’ Festival Limited (ACN 079 586 057) of Level 3, 10 Hickson Road, The Rocks NSW 2000 to be used for any purpose. The receipt of this bequest by any authorised officer of The Sydney Writers’ Festival Limited shall form valid discharge to my executor.”

The information provided on this website is for general guidance only. If you would like to make a bequest to us, we encourage you to first:

  • talk to the important people in your life about your legacy intentions for Sydney Writers’ Festival; and
  • seek independent expert tax and estate planning advice about writing or updating your will.

Sydney Writers’ Festival respects any decision to make a confidential contribution. However, if you intend to include Sydney Writers’ Festival in your will, you may let us know by contacting our Head of Development Lauren Dixon at lauren.dixon@swf.org.au or on 0413 212 890.
