Get bookish (for free) at Homegrown

With dozens of completely free events and workshops, Homegrown is our most accessible program yet. To help you make the most of it we’ve put together an itinerary of how your weekend could look from 9–11 October. See brilliant writers, listen in on urgent conversations and share in bookish joys at the State Library of NSW – all for free.

And remember, if any events you’re interested in are sold out, there will be a small number of tickets available at the door on the day.

Friday 9 October

6pm | Holly Ringland: The World Beneath Her Feet

Get ready to gush as bestselling author Holly Ringland shares the tender memories and secrets steeped in her latest novel, The World Beneath Her Feet.

7pm | Drinks with a view

Nab a booking at The Library Bar on the rooftop to savour a drink with a classic Sydney spring sunset.

7.30pm | Writing Queer Sydney

Join writers Madeleine Gray, Fiona Kelly McGregor and Zoe Terakes as they discuss our familiar streets and writing Sydney’s queer past and present, with host Benjamin Law.

Saturday 10 October

2pm | Ed Coper: Angertainment

Has the shine of social media worn off? Hear how tech giants turn our worst emotions into profit and digital politics pioneer Ed Coper's plan to defeat the outrage industry in conversation with Craig Reucassel.

4pm | Michael Robotham: Tell Me Something True

5pm | Reading David Malouf
