For 650 days Sean Turnell was a prisoner of the brutal military junta that today rules over Myanmar. A professor of economics and a long-time campaigner for democracy in Myanmar, Sean was economic adviser to the civilian government that was overthrown in a military coup in 2021. An Unlikely Prisoner tells the story of this ordeal, the events surrounding it and the strategies Sean employed to stay alive. It is also the story of the heroism of others and how love, hope and compassion can prevail even in the most terrible circumstances.
