Sam Lane is an award-winning journalist, author and broadcaster whose honours include a Walkley Award and two Melbourne Press Club Quills. She has been the co-host of ABC Summer Grandstand and covered men's AFL on Channels Seven and Ten for more than 15 years. She was an inaugural member of Channel Seven's AFLW broadcast team and has been a voice of authority on the competition since before season one.

Sam wrote the book on the birth of the AFLW. ROAR is the definitive account of the competition's beginnings. It was endorsed by Julia Gillard, reprinted in 2023 and released as a podcast to mark the tenth AFLW season. Her second book, Inside and Out, is the biography of sporting great Erin Phillips.

Sam is one of Australia's most sought-after interviewers of high-profile people, particularly from sport. She has led an audience with Andre Agassi, interviewed Jelena Dokic at the Australian premieres of her documentary Unbreakable and co-hosted basketball legend Luc Longley's sold-out national theatre tour.
