Neera Handa

Australian

Neera was born and grew up in India where she taught English literature. She migrated to Australia in 1991. In her journey in Australia from being a student, then teacher at TAFE to university lecturer, Neera finds herself both an insider and an outsider in her community and in the wider Australian society. Neera works in word and song in Hindi, Urdu and English that have shaped her childhood memories, her fantasies of youth and her academic self. She’s appeared at Sydney Writers’ Festival with Auburn Poets & Writers for over a decade and her work is in the group’s anthologies: Mosaic, Grandma’s Bed and Chameleon.
