Michael Bennett (Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Whakaue) is an author and filmmaker. His Hana Westerman crime thriller novels, including his latest, Carved In Blood, have been translated into 11 languages and shortlisted for or won multiple international awards. His first book, In Dark Places, is a non-fiction account of the wrongful imprisonment for 21 years of his friend Teina Pora. Michael is the only author to win all three categories of the Ngaio Marsh Awards: fiction, first fiction and non-fiction. He is co-curator (Māori) of the Auckland Writers Festival.
