Matt Alt is a Tokyo-based writer and author of Pure Invention: How Japan Made the Modern World. He is also the co-author of numerous books about Japan, including Yokai Attack! The Japanese Monster Survival Guide, and a contributor to Aeon Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, The New York Times, The New York Times Style Magazine and many other publications.
