Magdalena Ball

Magdalena Ball is a novelist, poet, reviewer, interviewer, Vice President of Flying Island Poetry Community and Managing Editor of Compulsive Reader, founded in 1998. She has interviewed hundreds of authors for her podcast, Compulsive Reader Talks, and is a popular moderator, presenter and workshop facilitator at festivals across Australia including the Newcastle Writers Festival, where she has been an active participant since the festival started in 2013. Her writing has appeared in an extensive list of journals and anthologies and has won and been shortlisted and longlisted in local and international awards. She is the author of two novels and six poetry books, most recently Bobish, which Pip Smith in The Sydney Morning Herald called “quietly tough and compelling, like a winter tree standing against the cold”, published by Puncher & Wattmann in 2023. A new book is forthcoming from Liquid Amber Press early in 2027.
