Lay Maloney is a queer genderfluid storyteller of the Gumbaynggirr and Gunggandji nations and they are South Sea Islander of Vanuatu descent. In 2022, they won the black&write! fellowship for their manuscript Weaving Us Together which was published by Hachette in July 2025. Lay has also been published in Nangamay Mana Djurali: First Nations LGBQTIA+ Poetry Collection, Australian Poetry Journal, Cordite Poetry Review, Soft Stir Magazine, More than Melanin and by Red Room Poetry.
