Following two decades of work as an educator, journalist and peacebuilder, Ittay Flescher watched on from his home in Jerusalem as the attacks of 7 October took place and the subsequent devastation of Gaza unfolded.

As education director of interfaith organisation Kids4Peace, which works to build trust and friendship between Israeli and Palestinian teens, he was dismayed to see the work of six years unravel in a matter of days, divisions and distrust once again marked. He questioned whether peace, his life’s work, might be an illusion.

Fusing memoir, history and proclamation for peace, The Holy and the Broken seeks to find a path of empathy and understanding in the face of conflict and destruction. Appealing to a shared humanity and homeland, Ittay urges leaders, citizens and supporters to search for engagement in narratives of the past in understanding how we might find a way forward. With Michael Visontay.

Ittay will appear live via video.
Courageous and considered. Ittay nurtures the tender, fragile shoots of peace. The world could do with more people like him.
