Bankstown Poetry Slam is back, bigger and better than ever.
The award-winning community platform welcomes poets of all backgrounds to share their experiences through spoken word. Headlining as a guest performer in this special Sydney Town Hall event is award-winning Palestinian author and journalist Plestia Alaqad, who showed the world Gaza through her eyes in the aftermath of the 7 October 2023 attacks.
Attendees are welcome to put their names forward to join the line-up and perform on the theme of Postc(Ode). Come together for a powerful night filled with poetry, performances and a shared passion for language. Hosted by Bilal Hafda.
The theme for this Bankstown Poetry Slam is ‘Postc(Odes)’. These are love letters to our homes – a celebration of the places that welcome us, that shape us, that carry us. We’re looking for poets to write and perform original poems that are Odes to their postcodes (get it) that they will perform on stage.
They can be about anywhere around the world (even those places that don’t have mailboxes!) – just be sure to speak with love, respect and a little bit of flair!
Poets will be chosen through a lottery system and sign ups will happen on the night. There is a limit to the amount of performances we can have and they will be chosen at random. Good luck!
