As people long spoken for and over, even as they endure some of the most extreme patriarchal violence, Afghan women share their testimony in My Dear Kabul: A Year in the Life of an Afghan Women’s Writing Group.

Covering a year of life for Afghan women following the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban in 2021, this collective diary brings together a tapestry of real-time experiences from 21 women. Recent Afghan evacuees senior judge Shakila Abawi Shigarf and contributor Rana Zurmaty come together with host Durkhanai Ayubi to discuss the accounts of losses of homeland and dreams for the future, with readings of passages from the collection.

Join Shakila, Rana and Durkhanai for a striking event in the fragile space between collapse and creation.

Shakila and Rana will be speaking in Dari and Pashto and will be translated into English by a live interpreter.
