Unwritten at Sydney Writers’ Festival: The First Chapter

A buzzing festival atmosphere. A drink in hand. A room full of people who love stories and are open to starting a new one of their own. This event is about connection in all its forms – romantic, platonic, and everything in between.

You might leave with your person. You might leave with a new book. You might leave with a Festival friend. Or simply with the sense that something new has just begun.

What to expect
From 5.30pm, you’ll arrive (solo or with a single friend), likely fresh from a Festival talk, and step into a space designed for connection. You’ll receive a welcome drink, there will be grazing platters and mingling with fellow Festival-goers. Then, Unwritten’s signature book swap. Bring a book you love and write a note inside. When you meet someone who feels like your kind of person, whether that’s a spark, a friendship, or simply great conversation, you gift it to them.

To close the evening, you’ll receive your bespoke Unwritten match, based on your pre-filled questionnaire.
