Zinzi Clemmons was raised in Philadelphia by a South African mother and an American father. She serves as Associate Editor at The Believer and as a Contributing Editor to Literary Hub. What We Lose, her first novel, is a finalist for the the Carnegie Medal, the Aspen Words Literary Prize, and the National Book Critics' Circle John Leonard Prize. She is a 2017 National Book Award 5 Under 35 Honoree. Zinzi teaches creative writing at Occidental College, and is a Visiting Writer at Pitzer College.
