George Sternfeld was born on 13 February 1939 in Warsaw, Poland. Hitler invaded Poland on 1 September 1939. On that day his father was in Bialystock on business while he, his brother and his mother were in Warsaw. Hitler and Stalin reached a non-aggression pact and divided. Overnight, Bialystock became a Russian entity and they were physically separated from their father. The family ended up in Siberia from 1941-1945, a harsh reality for a young boy. George’s book is From Chocolate to Anzac Biscuits.
