Palestinian journalist and author Plestia Alaqad emerged on the international stage with her coverage of the 7 October 2023 attacks and their aftermath.

Providing dispatches through social media channels, then 21-year-old Plestia revealed the realities of the siege of Gaza, bearing witness to its destruction. The Eyes of Gaza chronicles the first 45 days following the attacks, illustrating the horrors of Plestia’s experience and the spirit and humanity of the people of Gaza. More than that, it is Plestia’s call to action and a manifesto of hope.

Hear Plestia’s eyewitness account as she speaks with Sara M. Saleh.
Whenever I meet someone and they learn that I’m from Palestine, their response is always one of compassion and support... This genorosity of spirit has reinforced my belief that Australia’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths, and it’s a reminder that despite the challenges we face, there are many who are willing to walk alongside us in solidarity.
