Due to unforeseen circumstances Leïla Slimani is no longer able to attend the Festival and this event has been cancelled.

The Prix Goncourt–winning author of Lullaby stuns with another tense, provocative and page-turning novel in Watch Us Dance as well as an illuminating work of non-fiction, The Scent of Flowers at Night.

Following Leïla Slimani’s international bestseller The Country of Others comes Watch Us Dance, the second instalment of a trilogy fictionalising the author’s family history. The rebellions within an interracial family play out against the countercultural rebellions of the 1960s in a saga about coming of age in the face of the seductions of power and privilege.

Commissioned by her editor to spend a sleepless night alone in the halls of the Punta della Dogana in Venice, Leïla grapples with art, life and the craft of writing in an evening of solitude. Her thoughts and ideas make up the pages of her non-fiction work The Scent of Flowers at Night, praised by Katy Hessel as "a revelation".

Hear Leïla and host Claire Nichols reflect on these new works and her career highlights, including judging the International Booker Prize and being French president Emmanuel Macron's personal representative for promoting French language and culture.
