Join us for an engaging and educational journey into the world of literature
Our hugely popular Primary School Days program brings renowned children’s authors and illustrators to primary students for a fun, interactive and educational day that deepens their love of reading and writing.
This year, we're excited to feature one new special venue: The Pavilion Performing Arts Centre, Sutherland. We hope this new venue will give your school another convenient option for joining us on the day.
We're pleased to bring to primary school students an exceptional line-up featuring Cristy Burne, Jordan Gould, Maryam Master, Richard Pritchard and A.F. Steadman in what promises to be a thrilling celebration of the power of stories hosted by Adrian Beck.

The Program
THE 40,000-YEAR-OLD HERO
Jordan Gould and Richard Pritchard want you to meet Wylah: a brave, clever and strong-willed girl who is best friends with giant megafauna animals. Wylah is on a quest to save her people but she’ll need to become a warrior first. Wylah: The Koorie Warrior is a heart-stopping and imaginative adventure, inspired by First Nations history and grounded in culture. Jordan and Richard take students through the creation of this series, and along the way students learn an Indigenous language and help design a megafauna creature that will become a part of Wylah’s world.
SKANDAR AND THE UNICORN THIEF
Soar into a world of heroes and unicorns as you’ve never seen them before. Written by English author A.F Steadman, Skandar and the Unicorn Thief is the first book in an epic new adventure series where unicorns are real, but they’re also deadly! Get ready to hear about the inspiration behind the series, the story of how A.F. became an author, what SKY BATTLES and ELEMENTAL MAGIC are and...FEROCIOUS UNICORNS!
THIS TIME IT’S PERSONAL
Before she wrote books for children, Maryam Master wrote plays for children, adapting works by famous authors such as David Walliams. However, her latest novel is adapted from a place much more personal: her life. Maryam was born in Iran and arrived in Australia as a refugee at the age of nine. Join Maryam to hear about her career as a writer and No Words, her compassionate and hopeful book based on her own experiences of fleeing persecution.
EXPLOSIVE STORYTELLING
Cristy Burne works at the intersection of story, science, technology and creativity. She was a journalist at CERN (home of the Large Hadron Collider!), performed at Questacon (as part of a science circus!) and worked in a ute (as a rubbish collector!). She has also bungee-jumped, sky-dived, backpacked, and exploded sewage on her neighbour. Now Cristy writes books brimming with her love for all things scientific. Expect the unexpected! Safety goggles advised.
