Primary School Days 2020

The Primary School Days program is a fantastic opportunity for students to meet their favourite authors and illustrators, discover exciting new storytellers, have a book autographed, and be inspired by the world of imagination and ideas.

These hugely popular sessions bring together prominent children’s authors and young readers for a fun, interactive and educational day designed to grow students’ enjoyment of books and reading. During the day, writers and illustrators perform from their work, talk about their craft and take questions from the students.

The Primary Schools Days program is suitable for all school children in grades 3 to 6.

The Primary Schools Days program is hosted by Nat Amoore.

Sessions

Magic, Memory and Mystery

Discover the spellbinding world of Ireland’s myths and legends with fantasy favourite Catherine Doyle. Inspired by her real-life ancestral home of Arranmore Island and her many sea-faring ancestors, Catherine’s books The Storm Keeper’s Island and its sequel The Lost Tide Warriors whisk you away to a world of adventure and bravery on the high seas. Join Catherine to explore how real life and fiction can be combined with a touch of magic to create truly fantastic stories.

Share Your Smile

Have you ever thought about telling your own story, true or imagined? Are you interested in writing, drawing, or both? If the answers are yes, then this fun and interactive session with award-winning comics creator Raina Telgemeier (Guts, Smile) is for you! Learn how to brainstorm ideas, make lists, incorporate your own photos and drawings, and use your imagination like never before to tell your own unique story.

Adventure Ahoy!

Join author Andrew Daddo and illustrator Stephen Michael King for a swashbuckling session on their new pirate series, Atticus Van Tasticus. Together, they’ll reveal the fascinating (and true) history of pirates, talk the highs and lows of working as a creative duo, and take you behind the scenes on making fabulously funny stories with amazing drawings to match!

Garbology 101

Scientist, author and TV presenter Lee Constable (How to Save the Whole Stinkin’ Planet) is ready to take you on a stinky, sticky and kind of gross journey through the riveting world of rubbish! Learn all about garbology (also known as waste science) and do your bit to help the environment as Lee – and her alter ego Captain Garbology – teaches you everything you need to know about standing up for the future of our planet.
