Russ the Story Bus

Our travelling library, Russ the Story Bus, is a creative space where kids can browse bookshelves full of the latest children’s books, choose a book to take home, listen to a story and hear authors and illustrators talk about their craft. Russ' exterior is covered in artwork by leading children’s book illustrator and author Cheryl Orsini, and his interior is fitted out with custom bookshelves designed by an award-winning architectural firm, LAVA.

With his belly full of books for children of all ages, Russ hits the road each year to visit primary schools, bringing some of Australia’s best children’s writers and illustrators along for the ride.

Russ has been visiting schools since 2014, making this his fourth road trip to Western Sydney, and second to regional NSW as part of our annual Children’s Festival of Moving Stories. For the first time in 2017, Russ will also be travelling to regional Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory.

Russ’ school visits are FREE, and up to 60 students can visit Russ at a time.

In term four, Russ will be travelling to schools in metropolitan Sydney, Western Sydney, regional NSW, regional VIC and the ACT.
