In 2021, Sydney Writers’ Festival threw its first Debutante Ball to celebrate the Australian writers of fiction and memoir whose first books were swallowed up by the ongoing pandemic. We had hoped the past year would mark the end of these effects on debut authors, but sadly it wasn’t the case. As a result, another crop of new writers missed out on celebrating at launch events, for their books to be picked up by readers browsing in bookshops, and only a few literary festivals taking place as planned between lockdowns.

So, join us again in 2022 for the second SWF Debutante Ball! Help us welcome the COVID Class of 2021 into literary society, buy their books and support the local writers who missed out on launching their debut works of fiction and memoir.
