Join us for a Closing Night party like no other: the first SWF Debutante Ball.

It’s perilously hard to build a career as a writer under normal circumstances, so imagine the experiences of more than 100 local writers who released their first books in 2020 – in the shadow of a global pandemic. No book launches, no browsing in bookshops, no tours, no writers’ festivals.

Well, don a corsage and tweak that bow tie because the Sydney Writers’ Festival is casting these debut writers out of the pandemic’s penumbra and into the world!

Partake in a tipple or a canapé and watch on with pride as our debutantes are presented to literary society.

Then shine your dancing shoes because DJ Jonny Golightly from The Dollar Bin Darlings will be delivering a disco dancehall for our ebullient debuts and guests.

Two lucky guests will also be graced with the entire collection of debut books we’re celebrating.

So raise a glass and help us welcome the COVID Class of 2020 into literary society.

Thanks to ARA.
