Described as Call Me By Your Name set in communist Poland, Swimming in the Dark is Tomasz Jedrowski’s lyrical and moving debut about a consuming love affair unfolding as a country is torn apart. After love flourishes between two young men over a dreamlike summer in the Polish countryside, the protagonists must return to Warsaw to face the harsh realities of life under a corrupt and violent state. Reviewer Patrick Carey meets the Paris-based author whom Edmund White hailed as “an authentic new international star”.
