Acclaimed illustrator and writer Chris Riddell believes that an overly serious approach to literature and art drains them of their necessary fun and joy. The creator of the popular Ottoline and Goth Girl series discusses the power of doodling every day to get creativity owing and how artistic expression can unlock imagination in the classroom. A collaborator of Paul Stewart and Neil Gaiman, he re ects on working across artistic mediums and his mission to connect young people with the pleasure of books.

Chris Riddell, 2015–2017 UK Children’s Laureate and accomplished artist and cartoonist, has won major book prizes including the 2013 Costa Children’s Book Award for Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse. Other works include collaborations with Paul Stewart on Muddle Earth and the Scavenger series.
