How is a picture book made? Which comes first: the words or artwork? Find out when writer Davina Bell and illustrator Allison Colpoys take you through the making of their beautiful book Under the Love Umbrella. Starting with scribbles and moving on to choosing colours, developing characters and eventually adding the final touches, Davina and Allison will unpack the whole process to show you that there's more to creating a picture book than meets the eye. Rec. age 5+.

Davina Bell is an award-winning writer for young readers of many ages and a children's book editor. She writes picture books including All the Ways to be Smart and Under the Love Umbrella with Allison Colpoys, junior fiction title Lemonade Jones and middle-grade fiction series the Corner Park Clubhouse series and Our Australian Girl. She lives in Melbourne, where she works as the Senior Editor on the kids list at independent publisher Affirm Press.

Allison Colpoys is an award-winning designer and illustrator, and the Associate Art Director at Scribe Publications. Her picture books include The Underwater Fancy-dress Parade, Under the Love Umbrella, If All the World Were... and All the Ways To Be Smart. As well as receiving numerous Australian Book Design Awards for her illustration and cover design, she has won the CBCA Crichton Award for Best New Talent and an Australian Book Industry Award.
