Following its ongoing success as the monthly poetry night at Sappho Books in Glebe, AVANT GAGA returns to Sydney Writers’ Festival. Ali Cobby Eckermann was awarded the Windham-Campbell Prize from Yale University in 2017. Ali presented at the WORD Festival in Christchurch NZ and an Australian Aesthetics Keynote at Berkeley in 2016. Inside My Mother is her latest collection of poems and published by Giramondo in 2015. In 2014 Ali was the first Aboriginal Australian author to attend the International Writing Program in Iowa, USA and present at the Jaipur Literature Festival in Rajasthan, India.

Alison Whittaker (Australian)

Alison Whittaker is a Gomeroi poet, essayist and legal scholar. She is a Research Fellow at the Jumbunna Institute. In 2017-2018 Alison was a Fulbright scholar at Harvard Law School where she was named Dean’s Scholar in Race, Gender and Criminal Law. Her second book Blakwork is a collection of poetry, essays and short stories.
