Award-winning British author and illustrator, Lauren Child talks about the inspiration for each of her best-selling series and how she creates her amazing stories and characters. Prepare to enter the worlds of Ruby Redfort, Clarice Bean and Charlie and Lola!


Matt Stanton takes you through a funny and energetic exploration of storytelling, illustration and creativity. In this highly interactive session, Matt, who is a compulsive cartoonist, invites students to help him create stories and characters, showing them why they have no reason to fear the blank page.

Award-winning author Kate DiCamillo gives students an early lesson on the power of perseverance and describes her own path to becoming a published author. Kate opens up about how fear kept her from following her dreams for ten years, as well as the countless rejections before she got her first book published.


Jack Heath, author of action-packed thrillers in which the reader chooses the ending, reveals the secrets behind writing a fast-paced and unpredictable adventure. The story of Jack's strange life will make you laugh and think.

Oliver Phommavanh loves to make people laugh, whether it's writing humour for kids or on stage as a stand-up comedian. He also shares his passion for writing with kids, using his experience as a primary school teacher. Oliver is a fresh, positive voice for cultural diversity in children's literature and has appeared in many writers, arts and comedy festivals across Australia and Asia. His books include Thai-riffic!, Super Con-nerd, Punchlines and The Other Christy. His latest book will be Natural Born Leader, out in August.
