As the largest festival of its kind in Australia, Sydney Writers’ Festival plays a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual, cultural and social life of our city. Writers and readers from across our country and the world gather to explore their work and debate the most pressing issues of our day. Face to face in real space and in real time. With 50% of our events provided free, we are dedicated to ensuring that the festival is accessible to all.
How are we funded?
Sydney Writers’ Festival is a non-profit organisation with one third of our funding coming from state, federal and local governments. The generous support provided by donors and partners is vital to the Festival’s ongoing success.
By becoming a Private Donor of Sydney Writers' Festival you will make a valuable contribution to the work we do and help us to bring the world's finest thinkers and writers to Sydney.

Large or small, all donations are gratefully received.
- By credit card online: click here to complete our online donation form and pay by credit card
on our secure e-commerce site. You will receive an automatic confirmation and a receipt for your donation by email as soon as your transaction is approved. Please note that we can accept only Visa and Mastercard transactions.
- By post: print and complete the donation form (PDF) and send it
along with your cheque or credit card details to Sydney Writers' Festival, Ground Floor, 10 Hickson Road, The Rocks NSW 2000.
We will not pass your details on to any other third party.
How will Sydney Writers' Festival recognise my contribution?
We are very grateful for donations of any size and recognise donations in the following way:
Major Patrons $5,000 +
Patrons $500+
Donations of any amount are most welcome and all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
All donations of $500 or more will be acknowledged in the Official Program Guide distributed in The Sydney Morning Herald and on the Sydney Writers' Festival website. Donations can of course remain anonymous.
