EVELYN JUERS is the author of House of Exile: The Life and Times of Heinrich Mann and Nelly Kroeger-Mann. It is a collective biography of the German writer and political activist Heinrich Mann, his famous brother Thomas, their mother Julia and sister Carla, and a host of writers including Walter Benjamin, Bertolt Brecht, Alfred Döblin, James Joyce, Franz Kafka, Egon Kisch, Else Lasker-Schüler, Robert Musil, Nettie Palmer, Joseph Roth, Kurt Tucholsky, Virginia Woolf, their families and friends. House of Exile was recently shortlisted for the 2009 ALS gold medal.

KATE SUMMERSCALE (INTERNATIONAL)Summerscale, Kate

KATE SUMMERSCALE is the former literary editor for The Daily Telegraph (UK) and author of the bestselling The Queen of Whale Cay, which won the Somerset Maugham Award and was shortlisted for the Whitbread biography award. She has also judged various literary competitions including the Booker Prize. The Suspicions of Mr Whicher was awarded the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-fiction 2008 and recently won the British Book Awards – Book of the Year and the Non-Fiction Award. Kate lives in London with her son.
