Eminent Australian human rights academic Hilary Charlesworth talks to Larissa Behrendt about her work, and her most recent co-authored book, Bills of Rights in Australia: History, Politics and Law.
HILARY CHARLESWORTH (INTERSTATE) HILARY CHARLESWORTH is an ARC Federation fellow, director of the ANU Centre for International Governance and Justice in the Regulatory Institutions Network at the Australian National University, and professor of International Law and Human Rights in the ANU College of Law. She chaired the ACT Bill of Rights Consultative Committee in 2002-2003, which was instrumental in the development of the ACT Human Rights Act 2004. Her latest book is Bills of Rights in Australia: History, Politics and Law, co-authored with Andrew Byrnes and Gabrielle McKinnon.
LARISSA BEHRENDT (LOCAL) Larissa Behrendt is professor of Law and and director of Research at the Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning at the University of Technology, Sydney. Larissa is a judicial member of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal, Equal Opportunity Division and the Alternate Chair of the Serious Offenders Review Board. She has published on property law, Indigenous rights, dispute resolution and Aboriginal women's issues. Her book, Achieving Social Justice: Indigenous Rights and Australia's Future was published by The Federation Press in 2003. She won the 2002 David Uniapon Award and a 2005 Commonwealth Writer's Prize for her novel Home.
