THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

Kate Grenville was inspired by the 1790 notebooks of astronomer William Dawes, in which he recorded his conversations with a young Gadigal woman, when writing her new bestselling novel, The Lieutenant. This is a story about a man discovering his true self in extraordinary circumstances.

Sydney Observatory, in association with Sydney Writers' Festival and the National Trust's S.H. Ervin Gallery, presents an evening talk by Kate Grenville, followed by a book-signing and stargazing through the telescopes. The evening begins at the S.H. Ervin Gallery and concludes at Sydney Observatory, where you can see the remains of the first fort (constructed in 1806) and look through telescopes at the stars.

Entry includes a glass of wine, nibbles and telescope/exhibition viewing. Adults $30, concessions $26; Powerhouse and National Trust Members $25, concessions $20. Email enquiries: observatory@phm.gov.au

In partnership with Sydney Observatory and National Trust, S.H. Ervin Gallery.
