THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

While it reads like easy work — exotic locations and luxury hotels — travel writing is no holiday! Journalist and award wining travel writer Claire Scobie will teach you how to develop an idea and turn it into a polished article.

You are encouraged to bring a piece of your own travel writing to work on, and will leave with the practical tools to get your story to the top of the editor’s pile.

The workshop includes:
  • An understanding of travel writing genres in magazines, newspapers and online
  • How to impress an editor with strong ideas
  • How to turn a destination into a compelling story
  • The craft of travel writing: style, narrative, structure and dialogue
  • Practical exercises on how to evoke a sense of place
  • Tips on revising and editing
  • Ways to sell and re-sell a travel article
  • How to use photographs as ‘eye candy’
  • A brief introduction to travel memoir in books.
Duration: 6 hours
