Auburn Rising: The Sky Belongs to Everyone II
Event 212
print Print This Page
Celebrate the International Year of Astronomy with Auburn Poets and Writers Group. This multilingual performance explores the sky as an inclusive space, and probes into diverse parts of the planet they experience differently beneath one sky.

Since 2006, the APWG has offered SWF audiences a theatrical and culturally rich experience. This year the group will perform a collaborative work that looks at each of their relationships with the universe, the day and night sky, and where they search for answers to life’s questions.

Auburn, a suburb on the rise and dominated by the energies of arrival and change is growing at a dizzying rate. The languages of this village are a mix of Arabic, Farsi, Turkish, Cantonese, English and many more. This year the performance will evoke a sense of wonder and discovery and serve as a powerful expression of the human intellect.

AUBURN POETS AND WRITERS GROUP (LOCAL)
THE AUBURN POETS AND WRITERS GROUP was formed in 2005 as an initiative of the Auburn Community Development Network and Auburn Council. Originally conceived as a support group for sharing and developing writing, today the dynamic, multilingual group has over 30 members who write about connections between places, spaces and people. At the 2008 Sydney Writers’ Festival the group launched Auburn Letters, a publication of poetry by 28 of its members. It featured an eclectic mix of genres and textures, and gave testimony to the many voices within the group.
