Comic writer and illustrator duo, Danny Katz and Mitch Vane lead a lively session talking about their dynamic writing/drawing process, and reading from the ever popular Little Lunch books. In this interactive session, Danny and Mitch encourage participants to dig into their own schoolyard experiences and create some funny Little Lunch characters and stories of their own.
DANNY KATZ (INTERSTATE) DANNY KATZ is a columnist for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald. He writes the Modern Guru column in Good Weekend magazine. He is the author of Spit the Dummy, M.O.T.H.E.R, Dork Geek Jew, and many kid's books including the Little Lunch series. Danny is originally from Canada, but came to Australia at a young age because he was allergic to maple syrup. After studying an arts degree in Theatre Studies he tried a career in music theatre, then tried a career in stand-up comedy, then when he failed at both those careers, he finally stumbled into writing and that’s where he plans to stay. Danny lives in Melbourne with his wife, Mitch Vane, and their two kids.
MITCH VANE (INTERSTATE) MITCH VANE has had a long career working as an illustrator and artist, including five years based in London. Mitch works in a variety of media such as acrylic paint and watercolour, but is happiest drawing funny wonky pictures with an old-fashioned dip pen and messy Indian ink. She often collaborates with her husband Danny Katz. Her cartoons have appeared with his weekly column in The Age for the past 11 years, and they have created many children's books together, including The Little Lunch series, A Little Election and Big Bad Bunnies. Mitch has illustrated many other children's books with publishers in Australia and around the world. She has also illustrated a series of twelve Zodiac stamps for Australia Post that were released in April 2007. mitchvane.com
