Giramondo publisher Ivor Indyk shares the stage with four of Australia's most versatile and wide-ranging poets: Judith Beveridge, Ali Alizadeh, Kate Middleton and John Mateer. They read and discuss poems that travel across the world and through time, to India, medieval Spain, the Middle East and the US, and over thousands of years, to probe the limits of human ambition, emotion and language.

Beveridge,-Judith
Judith Beveridge (Australian)

Judith Beveridge is one of Australia’s most highly regarded poets. She had completed a Bachelor of the Arts at UTS, and has worked in libraries, teaching, as a researcher and in environmental regeneration. The author of four books of poetry, she is also the poetry editor of Meanjin. She currently teaches creative writing at Newcastle and Sydney universities. Her collection Wolf Notes, won both the Victorian Premier’s Award for Poetry and the Queensland Premier’s Judith Wright Calanthe Prize. Her other books include The Domesticity of Giraffes and Accidental Grace and Storm and Honey which have won between them, the NSW and Victorian Premiers' awards, the Dame Mary Gilmore Award and the Wesley Michel Wright Award. Her most recent collection is Devadatta’s Poems.

John Mateer
John Mateer (Australian)

John Mateer’s poetry has been published in Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, Japan, Macau and Portugal. In 2001 he was awarded the Victorian Premier’s Prize for Poetry and is a recipient of a Centenary Medal for his contribution to Australian literature. His previous books include Ex-White: South African Poems and The West: Australian Poems 1989–2009. His most recent work is Unbelievers, or ‘The Moor’.

Middleton,-Kate
Kate Middleton (Australian)

Kate Middleton is a poet and essayist, whose first collection Fire Season won the WA Premier’s Award for Poetry and was shortlisted for the Age Poetry Book of the Year. Born in Melbourne, educated at the universities of Melbourne, Georgetown and Michigan, in 2011-2012 she held the inaugural appointment as Sydney City Poet.

 
Ivor Indyk
Ivor Indyk (Australian)

Ivor Indyk is founding editor and publisher of HEAT magazine and the award-winning Giramondo book imprint, and Whitlam professor in writing and society at the University of Western Sydney. A critic, essayist and reviewer, he has written a monograph on David Malouf, and essays on many aspects of Australian literature, art architecture and literary publishing.

 
Alizadeh,-Ali
Ali Alizadeh (Australian)

Ali Alizadeh graduated with Honours in Creative Arts from Griffith University, Gold Coast and holds a PhD in Professional Writing from Deakin University, Melbourne. He has taught at universities in Australia, China, Turkey and United Arab Emirates, and has also worked as street performer, hair-wrapper, and delivery driver. He is a writer of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, drama and literary criticism. Transactions is his seventh book. He is a lecturer in Literature and Creative Writing at Monash University, Melbourne.
