Anthony Bourdain, James Gleick, Michael Cunningham, Emma Forrest and participating chair Lee Tulloch were all New Yorkers on the day the planes took out the Twin Towers. Ten years on, they tell us what it was like on that terrible day.

James Gleick is an author, journalist and biographer whose books explore the cultural ramifications of science and technology. His most recent book, ‘The Information: A History, a Theory, a Flood’, is being hailed as his crowning work. Gleick is also the author of the bestselling books ‘Chaos’, ‘Genius’, ‘Faster’ and a biography of Isaac Newton. Three of these books have been Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award finalists, and have been translated into more than 20 languages. James divides his time between New York City and Florida.

Michael Cunningham (International)

Michael Cunningham was raised in Los Angeles and now lives in New York. He is the author of four novels including ‘A Home at the End of the World’, ‘Flesh and Blood’ and ‘Specimen Days’. He won a Pulitzer Prize for ‘The Hours’ in 1999. The novel was adapted for the screen and starred Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf in the role for which she won an Oscar.

Lee Tulloch (Australian)

Lee Tulloch is the author of five novels, her latest being ‘The Woman in the Lobby’. She is currently working on her sixth novel, ‘Dorothea Goes Wild’, as well as contributing to ‘Vogue Living’ as travel editor. She spent two years in Paris and lived in New York City for a total of 10 years, starting in 1985 when she began her first novel, ‘Fabulous Nobodies’. After September 11, 2001, she returned to live in Sydney.

Anthony Bourdain is the author of the mega-bestsellers ‘Kitchen Confidential’, ‘A Cook’s Tour’, ‘Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook’ and ‘Medium Raw’. His writing has appeared in ‘The Times’, ‘The New York Times’, ‘The Observer’, ‘The Face’, and ‘Scotland on Sunday’. He is an ongoing contributor and authority for ‘Food Arts’ magazine. He is also the host of the Emmy Award-winning television show ‘No Reservations’. Anthony currently lives in Manhattan and works as executive chef of Brasserie Les Halles.

Emma Forrest (International)

Emma Forrest is a British journalist, novelist and screenwriter. Forrest had her first article published in the ‘Evening Standard’ at 15. By 16, she had a column in ‘The Sunday Times’ and at 21 published her first novel, ‘Namedropper’. She is also the author of ‘Thin Skin’ and ‘Cherries in the Snow’, and editor of the nonfiction anthology, ‘Damage Control’. She lives in Los Angeles, where she is a screenwriter, and has just published her memoir, ‘Your Voice in My Head’.
