Nine Australian poets have responded to nine paintings in the Newcastle Region Art Gallery collection. Poets Judith Bishop and Michael Farrell read their poems inspired by paintings in the NRAG collection.
Poets Paint Words II is curated by Peter Minter and Lisa Slade, in conjunction with Sydney Writers’ Festival.
JUDITH BISHOP (LOCAL) JUDITH BISHOP is a Sydney poet, linguist and translator. Event, her first collection, won the Anne Elder award and was shortlisted in the 2008 Victorian and Queensland Premier’s Awards. Judith is currently working on a second collection and translations from French poet Gérard Macé.
MICHAEL FARRELL (INTERSTATE) MICHAEL FARRELL is researching a PhD on Australian poetry and masterpieces at the University of Melbourne. His MA topic was The Billycan in Australian Poetry. Michael has published three books: ode ode; BREAK ME OUCH and a raiders guide. His manuscript won the inaugural Barrett Reid Poetry Prize.
