We are thrilled to announce that Michaela McGuire has been appointed the new Artistic Director of Sydney Writers’ Festival. Michaela will take over the curation of the 2017 Festival, our 20th year.
Michaela is the current Director and Co-CEO of the Emerging Writers’ Festival in Melbourne. She brings a wealth of book, writing, festival and publishing knowledge to the Festival through her work as a journalist, author, director, programmer and curator. Michaela has written three books (Last Bets: A True Story of Gambling, Morality and the Law, Apply Within: Stories of Career Sabotage and the Penguin Special A Story of Grief) and is also known for co-founding the successful salon, Women of Letters. She has been a regular columnist for Q Weekend, the Saturday Age and The Monthly, where she wrote a weekly blog on politics and current affairs.
Michaela says: ‘As Sydney Writers’ Festival heads into its 20th year, I hope to program a celebration that befits the organisation’s reputation as a world-renowned literary festival, and also introduce a new generation of audiences to the smart, eclectic, passionate and surprising voices that inspire the national conversation.’
Michaela will take the reins from our current Artistic Director Jemma Birrell in December.
